Seen it? Interested in it at all? In general I've never had much interest in Superman, because he's the boy scout of the superhero world, the Gallant to Batman's Goofus. But I'm going tonight, hoping to absorb some of the Brian Singery superhero goodness that X3 was so miserably lacking.

Okay, I went and saw it last night and I was hoping for an okay movie, something better than X-Men 3. Superman totally blew me away. It's the first movie in AGES that I've seen that is a) in possession of a solid story, b) doesn't totally fuck up and ruin the suspension of disbelief, and c) kept me guessing on what exactly was going to happen. I mean, the only thing released in the past YEAR that even comes close in terms of tightness of story is Cars, and in Cars the plot points were like flashing neon. You could pick them out in the dark, if you were blind. In Superman, they fed me the plot points and I didn't even REALIZE. There was nothing in that movie that made me go ARGH!!! That is freaking amazing. I'm impressed. Brian Singer =

I guess I'll probably be seeing it on Sunday! So I have to wait. I still don't know how I'm going to feel about it. The first Superman is one of my favorite movies, and the new Lois Lane looks so lame it hurts.

I thought it was okay... Cinematically, very smooth. Things rolled along great and it was all shot very beautiful. Story-wise, I never had that moment of connection with superman. I was waiting for it, for the moment when I could latch onto the character and stand by him through the rest of the film, but I never got to that point. Sure, he was goofy and dorkish sometimes, but I still could not relate enough to care. There's a point when, as an audience, you find that the film is not only telling the character's story, but /your/ own story. And then you're good to go. But I felt miles apart from superman. I loved Kevin spacey. I couldn't take my eyes off him every time he was on the screen, because I didn't know what to expect. I was ready for him to kill superman. In my eyes, he earned it. I felt cheated cause superman wouldn't play fair and die... It was better than X3. I'm still deciding if X3 or the Hulk was worse. But Nacho Libre was better than superman. Yep. And upon seeing Cars a second time, and just sitting back and enjoying the ride, I found it a nice soothing film. It will be one of those that's good to put on when you're working. I kinda wish Brian had stuck it out and directed X3 instead.

Superhero movies usually leave me pretty cold...I like Kevin Spacey, though...

I think it's good but not excellent. I felt really disconnected until the last third of the movie because you didn't really know exactly what Luthor was up to or what his threat was. It kind of feels like the first half of the movie isn't progressing anywhere, or it just progressed really slowly. I don't know. There were some really awesome moments though. But I don't think I'll see it again.

yeah, i'm actually excited about pirates 2, that hammer head pirate design looks pretty awesome. Even if the story won't be that strong, i'm sure it will be entertaining to watch jack sparrow running around and doing crap.

You know, there's a LOT of doubt floating around as to whether or not Pirates 2 is going to be good. And I have my doubts too...but I really think it's going to be good. I know everyone is going to just discount this opinion because it's me. But come on, the story in the first one was strong. And they have the exact same creative team working on the sequels. I know everyone thinks that movie is ONLY good because of Johnny Depp. But come on...one actor can't make a movie unless there's a good story for him to stand on. Anyway....I can't wait for Pirates 2. I think I might explode.

I wanna see it! I don't know the story to it, but it's gonna have Asian Pirates in it!! Come ON! ASIAN PIRATES! It's hard for a film to have Asian Pirates AND be bad!(Sinbad was an exception) I don't know if I told you this Heidi, but our story-board teacher Chong Lee's brother is one of the Asian Pirates in the movie. Isn't that hip? I wish I could be an Asian Pirate one day. After I become an Asian Cowboy.

Well I have finally seen Superman and I am angry. (there are spoilers in here so watch out if you care about that sort of thing.) I heard mixed things about it, so I go in not really sure what to expect. It looks pretty cool in the trailers, save for Lois Lane. And Bryan Singer directed it and from what I saw him do with the Xmen movies he seems like a pretty competant guy. So yeah I go into this thing feeling pretty sure I'll at least like it, not love it, but like it. No. The beginning of this movie was awesome. That super nova.... very sweet. Clark crash landing... man the build up on that was cool. All the Lex stuff was so awesome. I love the Kevin Spacey Lex Luther. He was definitely the best thing about this movie. BY FAR. But then Clark goes to Metropolis and everything starting falling apart for me. Do you know what the problem with this movie is? Superman has no character. He's a vapid comic book icon flying around doing things. He has this whole jealousy thing going on, but we never see how that effects his crimefighting or anything. He's just jealous. That's it. And I mean honestly it was kind of creepy and stalker-like the way he was following Lois and watching her in her house. And how he would talk to her as Kent one moment and then find her 2 minutes later as Superman just so he was around her all the time. But more importantly the character has no god damned arc!!! Superman barely emotes at all in this thing!!! There are all these scenes where he sits there looking majestic having deep "EMOTIONS." But I don't feel it. I don't see it on his face. I don't see how it affects him at all. What needed to happen is something like the loss of Lois Lane affects him so much he loses all purpose in life and just stops fighting crime. He stops seeing the purpose in it. I mean Lois wrote that article, maybe he starts believing it himself. And then the movie is about how he rediscovers "why the world needs superman," and all that. Then Lex becomes a real threat, cause Superman has just given up. There's no one there to stop him. I still can't figure out how he picked up an entire god damned continent of kryponite and threw it into space either. I guess kryptonite wasn't that big a deal after all. So instead of a Superman with any real character, we get this just kind of sad pouty guy who flies around staring at pretty skylines. That just takes all the fun out of Superman. Everytime I saw him in the movie I just felt kind of sad. When his theme played I wasn't excited. I didn't ever feel like he was saving people because he was trying to do good and make a difference. I felt like he was just doing it because no one else could. He HAD to do it. *groan* It's not like a think this movie just out and out sucks. That's why I'm so angry. There's so much awesome stuff in this movie! Bryan Singer is an awesome director, but dammit when your main character is empty your movie is empty. It doesn't matter how cool your effects and shots and villains are. It's all wasted on an empty film that doesn't say anything or do anything. From what I can tell what I think Singer was trying to do was take Superman and make him feel empty and alone and then give him a son to connect with. I think that's what this movie was supposed to be about. Superman finding someone to connect with. But dammit, if that's the theme of this thing why it barely in the movie. There should be scenes to support this theme. AHHHHH! Yeah so that's my rant for now. I really don't think Superman is going to do Spiderman numbers. It's just too long and too empty. My dad and my sister say they loooved it, but ... ha... they aren't even going to remember this movie in a year. I totally psyched for Pirates though! I really think its going to be good. If its not I will be sad!

My favorite parts of the movie were when he throws the ball for the dog to go catch and the dog turns and looks at him confused! And also when Luthor is brushing his teeth and says "Lois Lane."
I didn't hate it like Jen did. But I didn't really like it too much apart from certain moments. Also, I haven't seen the original in a really long time. So I don't remember it at all.
