Well I liked it. It's more charming that almost every other CG film in my memory (save all the pixar films).
The characters, who at first I assumed were going to be annoying, turned out to be a pretty cohesive unit, and for the most part, their dialogue and actions seemed motivated from an inward source, not a desire to squeeze in a gag. That's not to say that the film is entirely uncringewothy, but there is a refreshing absence of dance sequences/unnecessary pop culture references.
It's a nice small story told competently and even has a few truly inspired moments.

Yeah Over the Hedge aint so bad. I think I rate it at about the same level as Ice Age. Not bad, kinda fun, cute characters. Just nothing groundbreaking or emotionally rich. I think what really makes the film work is they gave each of the characters a little arc and they followed through with all of them. The story it a little wonky if you stop and think about it, and I wish Dreamworks would push themselves a little more technically. I mean geez!! Pixar pushes the limits of technology with their films. Dreamworks just kind of does.... enough. Did you guys know the only American institution with more computing power then Pixar is NASA. NASA!!! But back to Over the Hedge.... I mean wouldn't it have been cool to have the animals actually rigged like animals, instead of just little people in animal costumes. It would have been much more challenging in many ways, rigging.... animation... modeling.....but ...... come on!!! But yeah.... Over the Hedge: Not as gross as other animated movies.

One thing that I did notice is that the turtle wasn't slow....come on, such a big thing that they didn't even hint at.
