If you haven't seen this, you gotta. And no whining about furries. Published by ibooks in English, by Juan Diaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido, ex-Disney France animators. The noir adventures of Blacksad... Book one is just Blacksad; book two is called Arctic Nation; book three is french only so far and called Ame Rouge.

I've seen this. They sell it in Japan. I just kind of glanced through it, but then was super-surprised by the AMAZING DRAFTSMENSHIP!! and then read through the whole thing. Whoever drew this..could DRAW. freakin awesome. Really fine draftsmenship.. the only complaint I have is..I really don't like furries..just really just can't get myself to like humanized talking animals..no matter how good the story is no matter how amazing the drawings are..I just have no taste for it. so i didn't buy it, but man..AMAZING DRAWINGS THAT ARE LIKE GOLDEN KEY-POSES.

Book 3?!?!?! There's a book 3?!! Holy shmek... I love it when animators make comics. p.s If you like french comics, the latest Heavy Metal magazine is going to contain /all/ 3 issues of Skydoll, translated into english. You can order it here: www.metaltv.com/showitem.cfm?Itemnum=4329

Yeah, I can see how if you dislike furries Blacksad could be less than a religious experience. Even with animal characteristics, though, the draftsmanship IS freaking amazing. I guess especially with the animal characteristics. Try joining a horse head/neck to a person body... JJ Guarnido does, and it doesn't look glaringly wrong. I ordered the new Blacksad off of amazon France... there are a bunch of scanned pages here: blacksad-gallery.blogspot.com/I really love how you get both the realistic draftsmanship AND the animator sensibilities.

man..sooo good. I checked out that blog...the sketches are Niiiiice. Are those images from the 3rd book? I kinda like the 2nd book better because it had a more Noir-ish feeling to it, and it had that fox character. That character was rad!! and whoever drew this had freakin amazing skills, I just looked and observed and studied each drawing for hours..and ofcourse..did not buy it.. but still..man..awesome stuff. I wanna see him do human stuff now!

awesome. I can't wait for comic or film to come out.
He also has a sketchbook for Blacksad, the Sketchfiles... I picked it up last year at Comicon and it's got layout roughs for most of the pages, character development sketches, etc. Crazy stuff.
