Okay, you've all seen Fantasia 2000, right? my mom got my dad the new fancy Fantasia Special Edition box set for hannukah, which is really pretty cool. We were watching Fantasia 2000 and my dad says to me "i want to see the sequence that they animated in watercolor"... i'm thinking "what?" and i said as much. he SWEARS he read somewhere about a sequence that was the first ever animated sequence to be done in watercolor. i'm still thinking "what?" So we watched it all, and i didn't see anything. "what about the Pines of Rome?" he asks me "what, the one with the CG whales?" i reply. "yeah, i think that's the one..." "no, dad, that's done on a computer." "but i really think..." "look, dad if you trust my knowledge of ANYTHING in this world, please, for an instant, believe that i KIND OF know what i'm talking about." so while he went to re-watch Pines of Rome i did some google searching and, sure enough, i see that it wasn't Pines of Rome, but Carnival of Animals (the one with the flamingos and the yo-yo) that, according to some articles "incorporates the first ever use of watercolor animation in a feature film". Apparently "the sequence is rendered in a beautiful and rarely animated watercolor medium." But the articles don't elaborate. Having JUST watched this thing i would swear before judge and jury that these articles speak lies. Anyone hear anything about it?

Disa worked on that scene. They fully animated the flamingos by pencil first then finished it off in watercolor. Disa broght n the animatic and I remember it being black and white.

Yeah, the flamingos are totally watercolor! I remember some documentary with some lady talking about how they had to paint them one by one. Eric Goldberg apparently did the whole animatic for that sequence in like 24 hours or something. I'm sure that's inaccurate, but it was really fast. Disa showed it to us just like Jesus said. Man freshmen year. I wish Disa were still around.

Yeah dude! If you watch it closer you can see the color fluctuating because there's no way to keep watercolor completely consistent. I'm sure it talks about it on the special features or something, it's the 3 disc set right?
