Determined not to fade into oblivion, I post artwork! It took me a long time to color because I don't have a tablet so I got kinda lazy by the time I got to Boq. These are inspired by the book and the musical and my imagination. Photobucket wouldn't let me make the picture as big as I wanted, but you can still kind of make out some blue diamond tattoos on Fiyero. I'm not quite happy with Boq but I think it's a step in the right direction. Anyway, here you have it: --Adrian

WOW! that is sweeeeet. the shiz kids! You made Fiyero into a surfer-dude type! those tatoos are really cool. I never thought of putting tatoos on his arm, but it goes so well with his personality. I think my favorite one is Galinda. In my personal oppinion I think Galinda is the most interesting and likeable character in Wicked. She seems to be a shallow blonde who is a rich brat, but we discover that she has so much more personality and depth inside, and her character goes through many changes. Plus she has a great sense of fashion which makes her designing process extra fun. anyway, I myself, was drawing the shiz kids too. I'll post them up when I finish! -Q

Awesome Adrian!! And I'm surprised you like your Boq the least. I think that's my favorite! I like that red hair! All your character designs are so cute, Adrian!

Adrian.. I bought the Gregory Maguire book 2 days ago, and I'm about halfway through the book so far.. I didn't know Fiyero originally had tatoos! I must have sounded dumb. but anyway.. My drama teacher told us about the few differences of the Musical and the book, but in my oppinion..there are few similarities rather than few differences. It's like the only thing they have in common are the names. Every thing else is like... It has nothing to do with the musical. I like the beginning of the book, when she's born and all. I think Galinda has a much more complex and interesting personality in the book. She has more depth in her character. In the musical she's just a blonde. And in the musical I think she's supposed to be the most popular and most richest girl in school, which is also totally different from the book. And Fiyero is a totally different person. From his looks to his personality and everything. The book was really exciting in the beginning, but right now I don't know. Anyway, now I get what you mean when you said "they are inspired by the book.." -Q

Q - that's cool your reading the book. The book gets pretty lame in the middle. There's a few cool moments scattered throughout and the end is pretty cool, but mostly there's long stretches of lameness, where nothing seems to be happening. I also don't like how the whole book is told from outside the perspective of Elphaba. Its makes everything feel disconnected, because you keep switching perspectives. From Galinda to Boq to Fiyero. Its annoying. I really just wanted to be in Elphaba's head, seeing it from her perspective. Its her story after all!

Yeah. It would have been cooler if it was in Elphaba's prespective. But reading the book has definately gave me five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred inpsirations.Of course there is some exaggeration in those numbers haha. (I think I watched the RENT trailer way too much.) If we ever get to make the movie, we should twitch the story and give it some unexpected surprises just like the musical did! Unexpected witty plots that are clever and that fit right into the Wizard of Oz. It would be our own "Wicked" instead of the adaption of the musical, or the book. haha..look at me daydreaming again. -Q

Heh heh, yeah Q, I thought it would be cool to give fiyero back his tattoos. It's interesting comparing the book to the musical. I definitely think that Glinda is much more complex in the book, and Boq is also a much more fleshed out character, which I like a lot.
I think Elphaba is definitely better in the musical though, and since the story is HER story, it makes me kind of like the musical more.
It's like in the book she's just one big fat failure and I don't even know why the people of Oz hate her so much because she can't do anything. But I'll let you finish the book before I go into my detailed rant, heh heh. I'm still happy I read it though.

OK so I finished the book. I thought it was awesome toward the end! The ending was good. But since it was waaaaaaay to distant from the musical.. I just thought of them as totally different stories. The system of connecting the image of Idina Menzel's Elphaba to the Gregory Maguire Elphaba in my head has been long dead. It's impossible to picture them as same people. The Musical has it's strongness in it's story just as the book has it's unique strongness in it's story. Anyway, the book gave me a ton of ideas/inspirations. I am about to explode with all these different ideas in turning this into a film...aaah... I think the deeper aspects in the book were acturally really good material.. stuff like 'did Elphaba have a soul?' or how Dorothy's image is linked to Elphaba's younger image when she came to Fiyero's wife for forgiveness and stuff. That was Good stuff! I also think the 'myths and legends of oz' aspect (like the Kumbric witch and Lurline..etc) was really cool too. It kind of makes one ponder on stuff like..was Elphaba the reincarnation of the Kumbric witch..or stuff like that.
Overall I liked it! We should have a discussion or something about this.
